How did you hear about History Starts Now (HSN), and what is your heart toward the cause?
Through Kristina Grandstaff, Co-Founder of History Starts Now, and it breaks (my heart) for those who can’t stand up for themselves. I want to help spread the word to put an end to this crime.
Since History Starts Now (HSN) seeks to combine both art (visual, literature, music, etc.) and mission, how would or how could you say your work can influence this cause?
I can use my photography skills to help promote HSN and get the word out.
Everyone has a talent, and anyone can use that talent for good or evil. It is great that Jillian Spencer has decided to use her talents for the promotion of a good cause.
What are your thoughts about the work of History Starts Now (HSN)?
It’s very important and impressive. To start something like this takes a lot of faith, trust and belief in the cause.
How and when did you discover you talent?
I started taking interest in photography while I was in high school, and it grew from there.
Jillian is a great example of someone that developed an interest into a profitable business, and to think that it started while she was so young!
How did you know it was something you wanted to do for the rest of your life?
After praying about it, I felt God leading me to start a career of it in July 2009.
Jillian shows a great example of Philippians 4:6-7, which is a verse that we all should strive to live by.
What were some challenges you faced or currently face along your journey?
I can’t please everyone, as hard as I try!
Unfortunately, we all experience this challenge - even in the non-profit world.
Is your family supportive?
Very. They believe in who I am and what I do…whatever it is.
Having a supportive family is always important in pursuing your dreams, and it is a big factor of achieving success.
What is the greatest inspiration for your work?
Children…their innocence is what makes me want to capture them in action on camera.
This love of children is what has attracted Jillian to History Starts Now’s fight against the sexual slavery of minors in America.
How would you encourage others who share the same talents and are looking to pursue the same career goals?
Ask experienced artists how they started, open a business banking account, find out how to legally go about it - I asked my accountant. Get support from friends and family, and share what you’re doing!

What is your favorite place to visit?
St. John’s, the Virgin Islands - beaches (for snorkeling)
What would you like your life to be like 10 years from now?
To have a family and make memories with them.
Can you please give a couple words of how you would describe your talent? Looking at it from a view of someone that does not understand photography.
